Dog, Pick Up, Shots
The leash law required, when outdoors, to be kept in a fenced yard or leashed. Annual rabies shots and permits are also required. Animal Control officer patrol streets and pick up stray dogs and dead animals, which are taken to the Goodland Animal Impound. Door to Door Sales
Permits are required for any person engaged in door to door sales that is not a resident of Sherman County. The salesperson must have the permit at all times when they are selling goods. Certain activities, such as aggressive soliciting are prohibited. It is also unlawful for a door-to –door salesperson to enter upon property that is signed "No Peddlers" or with similar wording. City ordinances and state and federal laws prohibit the discharge of some materials into the sanitary sewer system. Sirens
Sherman County Emergency Management manages the siren system for the City of Goodland. Sirens are only activated three types of emergencies, tornado, fire and nuclear attack. The Tornado Siren is a three minute steady sound on the sirens. The Fire Sire (used only in the event of radio communication failure) is a thirty second wavering sound. The Nuclear Attack Siren is a three minute wavering sound on sirens. Sirens are typically tested on the first Wednesday of each month at 11:45 a.m. and consist of a one minute steady sound on sirens followed by a one minute wavering sound on the sirens. If you have questions involving sirens, the need for one in your area, or a siren not working, please call the Emergency Management Office at 890-4575.
Snow Removal
Home/Business owners are responsible for removal of snow or ice from their sidewalk within 12 hours after the snow or ice has accumulated. Do not remove snow or ice into the City streets.

To report a traffic signal that is not working, call the City of Goodland Public Works Department at 890-4555. After hours, or on weekends or holidays, call 890-4575 or call the Power Plant at 890-4530. For information about new traffic signal installation and signal design, call the Department of Public Works at 890-4540.

Utility Bills
Bills are mailed the last working day of every month and due by the 15th of the following month. Automatic bank drafting of your payment is available. Regular office hours for payment of bills are 7:00 am to 4:00 p.m. The drop box is available 24 hours a day in the alley behind City Hall. For more information, contact 890-4512.

Water Line Installation

Water Main Leak
If you see large amounts of water running down the street, boiling up out of the ground or other evidence of a water leak in the system, please call the Utility Department at 890-4512. After 4 p.m. or on weekends, call the Power Plant at 890-4530.
Water Meter Box
Water meters are housed in meter boxes, which are carefully installed in the ground and covered with a heavy lid. This is to ensure that no one can fall into one or otherwise hurt themselves. However, occasionally the box will settle below ground level, dirt will erode from around the box, or someone will remove the lid. Please report any problems with your meter box by call the City Utility Department at 890-4512.
Water Meter Installation/Service
If you are moving into a house with city of Goodland water service, call the City office to have service established at 890-4519 or 890-4518.
Water Pipes/Frozen
The water in meters and/or pipes may freeze in sub-zero weather. The Department of Utilities can help only if the meter is frozen or water in the service line piping under the street pavement is frozen. If you think you have a frozen water meter, etc., call 890-4512. Consult a plumber if in-home plumbing or the pipe leading from the meter to your home or business is frozen.
Water pressure (No water/Low pressure)
If neither you nor your neighbors have water, or it the pressure is lower than usual, the Goodland Water Division may be doing emergency work on the pipeline leading to your neighborhood. You should be notified of scheduled work that would interrupt service with a notice hung on your door. If you have no water and have not received any notice of interruption to service, please call the Water Department at 890-4540.
